Lesson Learned

November 9, 2010

They say that we learn from our mistakes. But what are we learning from the errors of others?

It may be easy to dwell on, and be frustrated by, the experiences with less-than-excellent leaders that you have had to report to.  You may find yourself wallowing in negativity when you feel you have been mistreated by management or when management has not earned your trust, but what can you learn from these experiences?

How will these “lessons learned” elevate your own leadership capabilities?

Action Idea:  Start a “lessons learned” file (I have mine in Evernote).  When you observe a management-in-action moment that just isn’t working, add to your “lessons learned” file how you would do it better.  Less grumbling, more learning!
